Day 14 Saturday 20th April

See the start of every other day however maybe it’s the port wine but I feel like rubbish in the morning. I need to go for a walk. Today Liz and I are splitting up. It’s Record Store Day 2024 and there are 3 shops I want to get to. Liz is going to go back to her favourite vintage store and then do some washing.

The first shop I go to Socorro nothing is happening at all. It begins at 4 pm so I will have to come back later. They have a venue downstairs and bands will be playing. So next stop Louie Louie where RSD stock is limited but I pick up Pulp’s intro album. Next up is Port Calling but I don’t get anything there although I’m tempted by Bowie and Jeremy Gluck.

I run a couple more errands before catching up with Liz at the laundromat.

After dropping off the clothes at the hotel we walk back to the Vintage shop with cash for a dress she wants to buy. While we are there she tries another one on and buys that too. Which means we need more cash. The guy at the shop tells us which AMT to go to that doesn’t rip you off and we get a good rate. We are hungry so we pick up a Bah Mi and then stroll back to the hotel.

There are a few artists at the record shop st walk there about 5.30 pm. Buy ourselves a few beers and watch a singer called Old Jerusalem who is quite popular. A lovely voice but we only hear 2 songs in 15 minutes. He talks for ages in Portuguese and then sings the songs in English. We haven’t got a clue what’s going on so we walk over to Porto Calling for a book reading by Rick Blackman. The book is called Babylon’s Burning and it’s all about the war on Fascism through music and such. The talk is engaging and we enjoy it immensely. It helps that there is a bar next door. We say hello after the gig and I give him a Fiction album and he takes my email so we can go out for a drink in Melbourne next year.

Back to Honest Greens for dinner and then we end up in a bar that has religious overtones but in a naughty way. One of the cocktails is the Priests’ Ass. That was fun but we are leaving tomorrow so we head back to the hotel. We do manage to grab a small bottle if Gin though so we can have a nightcap.
