Day 20 friday 26th April
Last day in Lisbon and the last day in Portugal. great adventure and great country. We loved it.
Bit of a shopping expedition today so first of all we walked around to the laundromat because Liz had run out of essentials for the trip home. While the clothes spin around we pop two doors down for some croissants and juice and coffee. Though it's an expresso so a wee bit strong for me. Once we have dealt with laundry and breakfast we set off to see a few record shops and circumnavigate the city of Lisbon.
The first record shop was Neat Records. Named after the Damned song. On the way passed King Edward Park again. This time there were 3 large colourful teddy bears on chairs. Very strange indeed. Neat had a few good records but most of their stuff was heavy metal and hardcore punk. Some great posters on the wall of The Damned et al though.
Next up was a few retro stores for Liz and she picked up some really groovy shirts. She has picked up some terrific vintage clothing here. And an ultra cool looking comic shop. We ended up near Groovie Records but stopped for a chicken salad and a Super Bock. By the time we finished lunch, it was Groovie records lunch break so we had to look around but found nothing. Back at Groovie at 2.30 to pick up a t-shirt, tote bag and a few records. Next up is the search for bubble wrap. We have a few breakables and go searching for bubble wrap. On the way, Liz picks up another piece for the house. The bubble wrap place is next to a Starbucks so we had a coffee which was rubbish and a tea that Liz says was alright. Both were incredibly hot. So we were there a while.
Next up was Louie Louie which yielded another cool album and Sound Lab which was like a booth in a hotel lobby and quite claustrophobic. However, we found ourselves in a new part of time for a while until we realized we had returned to the place with wonderful views and the bar where we saw the Fado. Lisbon is not that big!. And so we continued to the hotel passing a Jamie Oliver Italian restaurant.
On impulse as soon as we got the hotel we booked a table and our last meal in Portugal was Jamie Oliver's version of Italian Cooking. And it was great! WE even struck up a conversationwith the people next table to us who came fro Los Angeles. Totally fun way to end the trip.
But it was time to go to the hotel and pack up our luggage for the 5 am wake up call tomorrow. And that's how it ends. Next time I write I will be back in Melbourne. Which I hear is cold (In actual fact our weeks of sunshine turned cold and a little wet on our last day here)
Thank you, Portugal. We loved every minute.
