Day 16 Monday 22nd April

Not the usual morning routine! We have a kitchen and we stuff from the mini-market. Cereal and toast and bananas. It's a lot more fun and relaxing to make your own breakfast in your own time. And BBC news is on so we can catch up with the world news.

After breakfast, we go for our walk. Faro is a small town so we go virtually round in circles often passing the place we are staying. Firstly we head to the chapel of Bones at a Cathedral in what they call the 'old town' We were going to visit Evora for their large one but never got there. So this is like a second prize. Still, it's quite bizarre to see all these skulls and bones built into a wall to celebrate death. Quite a few have worn away over time. I think it's about 500 years old.

From there we head across town to the Tourist Information Office to get a map. The lady points us to the town centre and tells us just to turn left and follow the road. When we get to the end we find ourselves at our apartment. So I go upstairs and change into a pair of shorts as it's become warmer.

From there we walk to the marina for a walk along the water. Love the boats. This brings us to the walled centre of town. The wall protects a cathedral which we enter and climb to the top of the tower as you do. The view is impressive but not as much as the planes that fly close overhead going to Faro airport which is nearby. I'm a bit over cathedrals but strangely this being the last one I found it the best to look at. Just the incredible busyness of the place. So many angels. There is a small chapel of bones here too but all the skulls have been eroded.

Walk back to the apartment to have a siesta before dinner.

For dinner, we go back to the old town. There is a maze of streets and we wander around looking at the menus. We find a Nepalese restaurant that looks good so we give it a go. Chicken curry and vegetarian rice and it tastes great. We also had a dish of Puni Pari but they are far too spicy for our western taste buds.

After dinner we we go to a rooftop at the Hotel Faro. Nice view of the airport landing lights but lacking in any kind of atmosphere. So we just have one and head back to the apartment and finish off with a nightcap there. The host had left us a bottle of white to sample so we opened that. And watched a little Jimmy Carr. In the Nepal Restuarant I was reading some of his lines to Liz and the guy a few tables away cracked up. he like my delivery.! Maybe I should take up comedy.
